It is the sculpture of the cow made with the stone in the Izu shrine.
Since it can actually stroke, this sculpture is called Nadeushi (the stroked cow).
By the way,2009 is the Year of the Ox in the sexagenary cycle.

堅田教会市民クリスマスイヴのお知らせ

恒例の堅田教会クリスマスコンサートのお知らせです。

日本キリスト教団堅田教会（写真）は、ウィリアム・メレル･ヴォーリズによって、
昭和5（1930）年に堅田に建てられた教会です。

淡水真珠の養殖場（堅田内湖） ～Honkatata/本堅田 217

内湖とは、琵琶湖の周辺にある水域のことをいいます。
堅田内湖では、イケチョウガイを使って、琵琶湖産淡水真珠が作られています。

淡水真珠の養殖、加工、パールジュエリーの販売を行っている「田村真珠」さんの養殖場です。

An inner lake means the water area which is around Lake Biwa. The freshwater pearls
are cultivated by using Hyriopsis schlegelii in Katata Inner lake.This is the farm of "Tamura
pearl" to which culture of fresh-water pearls, processing and Pearl jewelry are being sold.

堅田内湖の午後（前編） ～Honkatata/本堅田 216

一面に見えているのは、淡水真珠の養殖用の柵。
白い物体は、柵にとまっている水鳥です。
秋から冬にかけて、たくさんの水鳥が、堅田内湖に飛んできます。
水辺の田んぼから、対岸のマンションと内湖大橋を撮影しました。

Honkatata 4 chome (Otsu,Shiga,Japan) is a town with Katata Inner lake.An inner lake means the water
area which is around Lake Biwa. The freshwater pearls are cultivated in the Katata Inner lake.There
are fences for the culture of freshwater pearls. White objects are the waterfowls staying on fences for
freshwater pearls .A lot of waterfowls are flying to Katata Inner lake from autumn to winter.From the
rice field by the waterside, I photographed apartments and Naiko Ohashi bridge in an opposite shore.

祥瑞寺の紅葉(11月編） ～Honkatata/本堅田 213

祥瑞寺の建物(※方丈）は、ご覧のとおりの美しさで、
鎌倉期の禅寺の建築様式を伝えるものです。

1919（大正8）年の大火で焼失しましたが、
1933（昭和8）年に、以前の姿そのままに再建されました。

※方丈：寺院の住職が生活する建物。室町時代中期以降は仏像や祖師像が安置されるようになり、

It is Syouzuiji temple in Katata that Ikkyu, who was a famous priest in the 15th century,
self-trained from 22 years old to 34 years old. He realized spiritual enlightenment on the beach in Katata.
Shouzui-ji temple is the beauty as looking ! It is the architecture of the temple belonging to the Zen
sect of Kamakura period (the 13th century).Although the temple was burned down by the conflagration
of 1919 (Taisho 8) years, it was rebuilt by the former figure as it was for 1933 (Showa 8) years.
We can see the figure of the temple like his looking.

祥瑞寺の紅葉(10月編） ～Honkatata/本堅田 212

一休さんが22歳から34歳まで修行したのが、祥瑞寺。
堅田を代表するお寺のひとつで、ご覧の通り素晴らしい庭園です。

一休さんは堅田の浜辺で悟りを開き、
師匠の華叟宗曇（かそう･そうどん）から一休の名前（道号）を授けられました。

The row of houses called the "Omichi machi" were photoed at the time of the twilight
